Partial Dentures
A removable option to replace several missing teeth while keeping your remaining natural teeth.

A partial denture replaces several missing teeth with one removable piece. It rests on your gums and holds onto your remaining teeth with small clasps. You take it out to clean it and usually at night.
Keeping the teeth you still have
That’s the point of a partial. If you’ve lost a few teeth but the others in that arch are sound, there’s no reason to give them up. A partial works around them and uses them for support.
It can also be a practical middle step. Some people wear one while they save up for implants or decide what they want long term. Others wear one for years and are happy with it. Both are fine.
Consider a patient we’ll call Ray, who is missing three back teeth on the lower left and one on the right. Replacing each with an implant would be a long, costly project. One partial fills all four spaces and lets him chew on both sides again.
Fitting, then getting used to it
We start with impressions and measurements so the partial matches your bite and the shade of your teeth. When it comes back from the lab, we try it in, adjust any spots that press or rub, and show you how to put it in and take it out without bending the clasps.
The first couple of weeks feel odd. Your tongue notices it, and some words may come out a bit different. That fades. Sore spots are common early on, and we’ll see you back to adjust them.
Your natural teeth carry part of the load now, so brushing and flossing around them matters even more than before.
Frequently asked questions
- How is a partial different from a full denture?
- A partial replaces some missing teeth and relies on your remaining natural teeth for support, while a full denture replaces all the teeth in an arch. A partial is an option when you still have healthy teeth worth keeping.
- Will a partial denture feel comfortable?
- There's usually a short adjustment period as you get used to eating and speaking with it. We'll fine-tune the fit and see you for follow-ups until it feels natural.
- How do I take care of a partial?
- Remove and rinse it after eating, clean it daily, and take it out at night unless we advise otherwise. Keeping your natural teeth and gums healthy is just as important, since they support the partial.
- Can a partial be adjusted if I lose another tooth?
- In many cases a partial can be modified to add a tooth, though it depends on the design. We'll talk through your options if your needs change over time.
